Vol. 580 No. 2

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with two notices under Standing Order 31. I will call on the Deputies in the order in which they submitted their notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: the failure of the Minister for Health and Children and the Southern Health Board to approve the permanent appointment of radiologists, a geriatrician, ear, nose and throat consultant and general surgeon at Mallow General Hospital, which is a designated hospital under the Health Act 1970, which has given rise to concern that the Hanly report is being implemented by stealth in the area. In view of the importance of this issue, I hope the Chair will agree to my request.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to debate the following urgent matter: that the residents of the occupied Six Counties, who suffered enough gerrymandering in the past at the hands of what was effectively a one-party Unionist regime that exercised its powers liberally, be given the opportunity to vote in the Presidential elections in this State, thereby reducing the exclusion and isolation caused by their British occupiers; and that this State should recognise their right to vote pending the end of the unjust, unwarranted and forced partition of this country.

Having considered the matters raised, I do not consider that they are in order under Standing Order 31.
