Vol. 595 No. 1

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the need to resolve the postal dispute and to ensure payment of money owed to postal workers and the retention of postal services to rural areas through adequate support of rural post offices by An Post and the State, allowing them to provide extra services to rural customers.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to mark United Nations international anti-corruption day and to assess what Ireland needs to do to end corruption in this country and to ensure overseas development aid is not used in any way which facilitates corruption in poor countries, as is alleged by some development workers who perceive a number of Governments in countries Ireland is assisting to be corrupt in fundamental ways.

Having considered the matters raised, I do not consider them to be in order under Standing Order 31.
