Vol. 667 No. 3

Requests to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Anois, iarratais chun tairisceana a dhéanamh an Dáil a chur ar athló faoi Bhuan Ordú 32. Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a number of notices under Standing Order 32. I propose to call the Deputies in the order in which they submitted notices to my office.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to discuss a matter of national importance, namely, the planned closure of the Well Screen Technologies manufacturing plant in Dublin Road, Celbridge which has operated in the area since 1962 that will result in the loss of 50 manufacturing jobs and a further 150 jobs in the 100 Irish companies which supply services to this manufacturing facility and to call on the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment, Deputy Mary Coughlan, to seek urgent talks with the owners at the factory while being conscious of the fact that the Irish branch of Weatherfords has a full order book, is highly profitable and is only proposing to move to Cyprus to avail of a more favourable tax regime for the company.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to discuss a matter of national importance, namely, the deliberately concealed threat to public health posed by the contamination of bottled water with the Food Safety Authority of Ireland failing to inform the public that one in 11 bottles of Irish produced water is somewhat contaminated as compared with 1 in 119 of imported bottles of water tested and is refusing to reveal the names of the brands concerned despite the presence of e.coli.

Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing order 32.

That will drive Deputy Bannon to drink.

That is a bit harsh.
