Vol. 675 No. 2

Requests to move Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32.

Anois, iarratais chun tairisceana a dhéanamh an Dáil a chur ar athló faoi Bhuan Ordú 32, requests to move the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to discuss the following significant and important matter of public interest requiring urgent attention, namely, the decision of the Health Service Executive to transfer the administration of the medical card section in Ballybofey and centrally locate it in Dublin and the serious implications for employment in Donegal as a result of this transfer; and the urgent need for the Minister to contact the Health Service Executive with the request to reassess and ultimately withdraw this decision so that those employed in Donegal can remain in their positions.

Deputies

Hear, hear.

I took the Ceann Comhairle at his word yesterday when he suggested I should table a question on this issue. I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the inequality arising from the exemption of judges from the payment of the pension levy which, although appearing to be justified under Article 35° of Bunreacht na hÉireann that safeguards the remuneration of the Judiciary, is open to debate as such a levy could be said to be a form of taxation and the imposition of same is not in fact contravening the constitutional safeguard of said remuneration.

I seek the adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 32 to raise a matter of national importance, namely, the need for the Minister for the Enterprise, Trade and Employment to take immediate action to deal with the spiralling unemployment problem on Dublin's north side in view of the fact that 1,135 people were let go from SR Technics and there are now 3,500 more people signing on this year in the Coolock and Kilbarrack social welfare offices than there were last year; the Government needs to immediately set up a Dublin north side multi-agency task force, which will provide a comprehensive approach to finding alternative employment for these workers. FÁS alone will not solve this crisis.

Tar éis breithnithe a dhéanamh ar na nitheardaithe, níl siad in ord faoi Bhuan Ordú 32. Having considered the matters raised, they are not in order under Standing Order 32.
