JOINT COMMITTEE ON COMMUNICATIONS, MARINE AND NATURAL RESOURCES díospóireacht -
Wednesday, 27 Nov 2002

Vol. 1 No. 2

Business of Joint Committee.

The Clerk has circulated the minutes of the last meeting to each member. It is standard practice that the minutes of the previous meeting are circulated with the agenda for the usual fortnightly meeting. However, as the joint committee decided to hold an unscheduled meeting on 20 November to hear presentations on the reform of the Common Fisheries Policy, it was not possible to issue the minutes with the agenda for this meeting. Are they agreed to? Agreed.

The Clerk has circulated a list of the correspondence received. If any member requires a copy of an item of correspondence, he or she should advise the Clerk. There are five items of correspondence, a consultation paper on the wearing of life jackets or personal floatation devices and a request for views from interested parties by Tuesday, 31 December. The Clerk will arrange to circulate copies of the consultation paper in order that members can make submissions if they wish. Is that agreed? Agreed.

We have received two letters from TV3, the first of which seeks to make a presentation to the committee while the second details issues which TV3 has regarding the RTE transmission network and advertising revenue. With its agreement, these two items can be dealt with when the committee considers its draft work programme. Is that agreed? Agreed.

We have received a memo from Ms Sadie Callan which gives information on the RTE licence fee. Copies have been circulated to members. We have also received a letter from Mr. Joe Reidy, Kilkenny Communications Co-operative Limited, about a presentation to the committee. With its agreement, this item can be dealt with when the committee considers its draft work programme. Is that agreed? Agreed.

We have also received a letter from Mr. John Redmond, company secretary of the ESB, about a presentation to the committee. With its agreement, this item can also be dealt with when the committee considers its draft work programme. Is that agreed? Agreed.

We will now introduce the five representatives from RTE. Mr. Collins will make a presentation for 15 minutes and we will conclude at 2.20 p.m. We will then ask the group of unions to come in and there will be a question and answer session, but we must finish by 3.30 p.m.

That is good news.
