JOINT COMMITTEE ON EUROPEAN AFFAIRS díospóireacht -
Wednesday, 10 Dec 2003

Vol. 1 No. 55

Business of Joint Committee.

We will put forward the following recommendation:

The Joint Committee on European Affairs has considered a report prepared and submitted for its attention by the advisory group on the role of the Court of Auditors. The committee is grateful to the chairperson and members of the advisory group for bringing this report to its attention. Having considered the report at its meeting on 10 December, we referred the report to COSAC as a discussion document.

We will proceed with other business. Are the minutes circulated for 4 and 19 December agreed? Agreed. The correspondence report regarding the European-Mediterranean Parliament forum is to be noted. Noted. We have correspondence from Mr. Klaus Larsen-Jensen regarding the amendment of the EUROPOL convention. This needs to be discussed at COSAC level so we will note it for discussion there. Noted. Correspondence received from Annemarie Flynn, private secretary to the Attorney General, regarding the Euroflag report which is our recommendation for noting. Noted. It is proposed to note the report list of the A items discussed by last Monday's meeting of the Council of the European Union. Noted.

The next meeting of the committee will be tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. with the House of Commons scrutiny committee. That will be followed by lunch which Deputy Haughey will host as I have to attend a funeral. Six members of the House of Commons committee will be here so it would be useful if six committee members could attend. Deputy Mulcahy is the only Member who has indicated he will attend so far. Senator Lydon will also attend. Lunch is at 12.30 p.m.

At our last meeting it was agreed to invite the Minister for Finance to our next meeting to discuss the Stability and Growth Pact. He has agreed to come at 2 p.m. tomorrow. I expect the meeting will last no more than an hour. Briefing material has been requested and is expected to be circulated.

The joint committee adjourned at 3.30 p.m. until 11 a.m. on Thursday, 11 December 2003.
