JOINT COMMITTEE ON EUROPEAN SCRUTINY díospóireacht -
Tuesday, 14 Jul 2009

Business of Joint Committee.

The next item on the agenda is the scrutiny of the EU legislative proposals. There are several new proposals.

There are no adopted measures for our consideration.

The following proposals require no further scrutiny COM (2009) 271-FON, proposal for a Council regulation imposing a definitive countervailing duty and collecting definitively the provisional duty imposed on imports of biodiesel originating in the United States of America; COM (2009) 272-FON imposing a definitive anti-dumping duty and collecting definitively the provisional duty imposed on imports of biodiesel originating in the United States of America. Given that the proposals have no implications for Ireland and that no difficulties have been reported from the relevant market sector, it is proposed that these proposals do not warrant further scrutiny. Is that agreed? Agreed.

The following proposal requires no further scrutiny but I propose sending it to sectoral committees for information, COM (2009) 238, proposal for a Council Decision on the allocation of financial intermediation services indirectly measured, FISIM, for the establishment of the gross national income, GNI, used for the purposes of the European Community's budget and its own resources. Given that the proposed decision is of a technical nature, it is proposed that it does not warrant further scrutiny by this committee. The proposal may, however, mean, if approved, a relatively small increase in Ireland's GNI-related contribution to the EU budget after 2009; it is also proposed to forward the proposal to the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Finance and Public Services for information. Is that agreed? Agreed.

There are no other proposals for our information today.
