JOINT COMMITTEE ON FINANCE AND THE PUBLIC SERVICE díospóireacht -
Tuesday, 23 May 2006

Business of Joint Committee.

No. 1 on the agenda is the minutes of the meeting of 10 May. The draft minutes have been circulated. Are they agreed? Agreed.

Before proceeding to the main business of the meeting, we will address No. 3 on the agenda, a travel proposal for the Eurofi annual conference entitled, "Europe's retail financial services on the road to integration: Are we up to the Challenge?" It is in Brussels on 6 and 7 June 2006. I wish to put the following motion to get it agreed:

The joint committee, in the interests of informing itself in the pursuance of its terms of reference, agrees to accept the invitation received to participate in Eurofi's annual conference entitled, "Europe's retail financial services on the road to integration: Are we up to the Challenge?", which will take place on 6 and 7 June 2006 in the European Parliament in Brussels.

The estimated cost of attendance is €1,140 per member, and €1,110 for an official. Can we approve the motion? Agreed. I propose that we agree to send a maximum of two members; that is, if two members wish to travel. I ask the Government and Opposition conveners to notify the clerk of the name of the person travelling so that arrangements can be made. If it happens that no member travels, so be it, but we were given approval for a maximum of two people.
