Business of Joint Committee

I remind members and those in the Gallery to ensure their mobile telephones are switched off completely for the duration of the meeting as they cause interference with the recording equipment in committee rooms, even in silent mode. I ask that this instruction be respected.

We were to have Mr. Ciarán Staunton, chairman of the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform, present this afternoon but we received dreadful news on Monday morning that his 12 year old son Rory had died tragically following a baseball accident. I propose, on behalf of the committee, that we write to Mr. Staunton and his wife Orlaith conveying our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to them and their young daughter on their heartbreaking loss. I also propose that we convey our sympathy to our colleague in the Oireachtas, the Minister of State at the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, Deputy O'Dowd, who is a brother of Mrs. Staunton and Rory's uncle. Is that agreed? Agreed.

The minutes of the meeting of 7 March have been circulated. Are they agreed? Agreed. No other matters arise.
