JOINT COMMITTEE ON THE ENVIRONMENT, HERITAGE AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT díospóireacht -
Tuesday, 23 Mar 2010

Business of Joint Committee.

We were to discuss the drafting of the report but, given today's Cabinet reshuffle and the extensive presentations concerning counties Clare, Leitrim and Offaly, that has not been possible. Can I suggest it be made the sole item on the agenda for our next meeting?

Next Tuesday, Irish canine breeders will make a short presentation. I have prepared a few headings for the report which I will circulate with the agenda for next Tuesday's meeting because it would be useful to have a discussion at that meeting. The draft structure which I have suggested covers Met Éireann, the national emergency response co-ordination committee, the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, the OPW, local authorities, communications and two detailed case studies of Shannon and Cork.

The Chairman might give a provisional timeline for when the report is to be completed.

We have received a lot of information from a lot of bodies since last Christmas. We need one or two discussions among ourselves before drafting the report and then considering it.

Will the meetings be in private?

No. I have never held a meeting in private. That is not the norm but I am happy to hold all meetings in public.

I will adjourn the meeting until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, 30 March 2010 when we will discuss the structure of the report and hold a short meeting with canine breeders in Ireland on the Dog Breeding Establishments Bill 2009.

The joint committee adjourned at 5.45 p.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, 30 March 2010.
