Vol. 12 No. 14

Public Business. - Business of the Seanad.

Cathaoirleach

Senators will remember that we had arranged to have an election on Wednesday next to fill a vacancy in the Seanad. A great many Senators have approached me and have suggested that it would be very inconvenient for them to attend on Wednesday next in view of the holding of an important function in connection with the Catholic Emancipation Centenary celebrations. The Dáil is not meeting on Wednesday. It had been arranged that on Wednesday we were to hold an election to fill a vacancy created by the regretted death of Mrs. Stopford Green, and a second election on Thursday to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of the Marquess of Lansdowne. In neither case is the one person nominated for both vacancies, so that there will be no difficulty in holding both elections on the one day. I suggest that both elections be held on Thursday of next week, and that the Seanad do not meet on Wednesday.

Agreed.

The Seanad adjourned at 5.55 until Thursday, 20th June.
