Vol. 12 No. 15

Public Business. - Betting Bill, 1929—Second Stage.

Question proposed: "That the Bill be read a Second Time."

This is a Bill to extend merely until 31st December next the existing betting law. In the ordinary way the existing law would expire on the 30th June. Recently there has been a report by a Committee which examined the whole question of betting. That was published some three or four weeks ago. It is being carefully considered by the Minister for Finance, and it is the intention of the Minister to introduce in the autumn session a Bill permanently regulating betting in this country. To carry on the existing legislation, a Bill of this nature is required, and I would ask the House to pass it.

Question put and agreed to.
Committee Stage ordered for Friday.
