Vol. 15 No. 5

Defence Forces (Temporary Provisions) (No. 2) Bill, 1931—Committee and Final Stages.

Bill put through Committee Stage without amendment, and reported to the House.

On behalf of Senator Milroy, I beg to move the motion on the Order Paper:

That, notwithstanding anything to the contrary contained in Standing Order 85, the Report Stage of the Defence Forces (Temporary Provisions) (No. 2) Bill, 1931, be taken to-day.

I second the motion.

I oppose this motion on the same grounds that I mentioned yesterday. Senator Milroy is not here and does not come here, but he shoots those arrows from London. There should be very good reason before a motion of this kind is accepted, but we have not been given any reason for this motion.

I object to the statement made by the Senator. Senator Milroy was here on Wednesday week and it is not fair that charges of this kind should be made against a brother Senator. There may be good reasons why Senator Milroy is not present. He is not a millionaire and he has other duties to attend to. He has to try to make a living and should be shown some consideration.

Question put, and declared carried.
Question —"That the Bill be received for final consideration"— put and declared carried.
Agreed to take the Fifth Stage now.
Question —"That the Bill do now pass"— put and declared carried.
