Vol. 15 No. 27

The Economic Situation.

Cathaoirleach

The following motion will appear on the Order Paper for to-morrow, Thursday, 28th July, 1932, in the name of Senator Counihan:—

That, in the opinion of this House, a satisfactory and permanent settlement of the present unfortunate differences between the Government of the Irish Free State and the British Government can best be obtained by direct negotiations between duly accredited representatives of the Governments concerned: and, having regard to the fact that the present economic strife, if persisted in, can result only in serious material loss to the peoples of both countries and in profit to neither, the House urges the Government, as trustees for the nation, to reopen forthwith direct negotiations with the British Government with a view to such settlement.
