Vol. 22 No. 5

Defence Forces (Pensions) (Amendment) Bill, 1938—Committee and Final Stages.

Bill passed through Committee without amendment.
Agreed to take the Report Stage now.
Bill received for final consideration.
Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

Could the Minister, from recollection, tell the House the total amount of military pensions at present being paid and whether he considers that that figure is likely to be the maximum?

Several Acts come under the title "Military Service Pensions Acts." The Wounds and Disabilities Acts which relate to persons wounded, or disabled because of disease, from 1916 to 1923, would come under that title. Then, there are the Military Service Pensions Acts of 1924 and 1934 relating to the same period. This Bill amends an Act providing for retired pay for the present officers of the standing Army. There are only about half a dozen pensioners, so far, in this particular class.

Question put and agreed to.
Ordered: That a Message be sent to the Dáil accordingly.
