Vol. 33 No. 4

Expiring Laws Bill, 1946—Second and Subsequent Stages.

Question proposed: "That the Bill be now read a Second Time."

As Senators are aware, the Expiring Laws Bill is an annual measure. The list of Acts to be renewed has been circulated to Senators, and so I do not think it is necessary for me to comment on them. There is no question of principle involved and in every case we are so far as possible codifying or consolidating legislation so as to reduce the number of those Bills which appear before the Oireachtas each year.

This is a hardy annual decreasing in strength and bulk, year by year. We hope that it will decrease further. It is a Bill that, I think, we must pass through all its stages tonight.

Question put and agreed to.
Agreed: That the remaining stages of the Bill be taken now.
Bill passed through Committee without amendment, reported, received for final consideration and passed.
Ordered: That the Bill be returned to the Dáil.
