Vol. 44 No. 2

Committee on Procedure and Privileges.

I move:—

That, in accordance with Standing Order No. 59, the Committee on Procedure and Privileges be appointed; and that it be referred to the Committee of Selection to nominate the members of the Committee.

May I ask if any of the Independent Senators are represented on this Committee?

Which Committee?

The Committee under item 2.

We are now on item 3.

I am sorry. I had not gone beyond that; I was not quick enough. May I ask are the Independent members represented on any of these Committees—so that I may be in order?

We are appointing only one Committee, that is, the Committee of Selection. The other Committees are appointed on the nomination of the Committee of Selection. The Committee of Selection will presumably keep in view the existence of Independent Senators—I hope it will.

I take it that there is no Independent Senator on the Committee of Selection?

The list is there.

It is not always easy to determine exactly who is Independent and who is not.

Are we not all Independents?

If the Senator wishes, I shall read the names. They are on the Order Paper. Has Senator Stanford not got this Order Paper?

Yes, Sir, but I know that Senator Hayes is always very obliging in giving information of this kind and is in a better position to answer my question.

I possess no mysterious knowledge other than what is there on the Order Paper. It is there to be read.

I am satisfied with raising the question.

Question agreed to.
