Vol. 50 No. 14

Public Business. - Business of Seanad.

What about the rest of the debate on the Schedule? I presume an effort will be made to reinstate this sub-section? Could we decide on sub-section 2º now? Both sub-sections have been debated. Then we would have nothing but sub-section 3º and the Constituency Commission. I am in the hands of the Leader of the House.

I am perfectly agreeable to that course.

Shall we deal with it now?

It seems to me that the second main principle in this Bill, the abolition of the transferable vote, should get some separate debate. We have been debating the single seat constituency. It is quite conceivable that we could have the single seat constituency with a transferable or a non-transferable vote. I would welcome the possibility of saying something about the value of the transferable vote, whether or not we have the single seat constituency. I do not think the debate on that should be suppressed.

Is the House agreeable to adjourn now until 7.30 p.m?

Should we not retain our original arrangement that the other question will be put at 10 o'clock to-night so as to meet to-morrow and to get the other business done?

I understand that the other question will be put at 10 p.m. and that the discussion to-morrow morning will be devoted to the Referendum Bill.

Business suspended at 6.20 p.m. and resumed at 7.30 p.m.
