Vol. 53 No. 5

Order of Business.

Business, as set out on the Order Paper, will be taken in the following order: Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 and 6. If No. 6 is not reached by tea time, it is proposed to take it after the resumption and, if completed, to resume the order.

What about motion No. 10 standing in my name? There is a certain amount of urgency about it. Is there any possibility that it may be taken this evening?

There is no possibility this evening.

This motion is of importance in so far as it is a recognised fact that another country has taken our quota——

The Senator might discuss the matter with the Leader of the House.

We were prepared to take that motion a fortnight ago when it was put down. The Minister was available but the Senator would not go on with it then.

Would it be possible to take it before the Christmas Recess?

The Chair cannot arrange that.

There is also a motion in my name, Motion No. 11, which reads as follows:

"That Seanad Éireann regards as a retrograde step the decision of Córas Iompair Éireann to close the railway lines which serve the towns and countryside in South and West Cork."

Can I have any information as to when it will be taken?

We do not think it an appropriate motion to be considered by the Seanad. We should like a ruling on it first by the Committee on Procedure and Privileges.

This line is due to close on 1st March.

We cannot discuss the matter; it is ended. The Leader of the House has indicated that it is to be referred to the Committee on Procedure and Privileges.

We had plenty of time to refer it to that Committee within the past fortnight.

The Chair has no control over the matter.

I would ask you, Sir, to take this motion as soon as possible—at least before the House adjourns.

I am in the hands of the House.
