I move:
That, pursuant to subsection 2 of Section 2 of Article 25 of the Constitution, Seanad Éireann concur with the Government in a request to the President to sign the Intoxicating Liquor Bill, 1962, on a date which is earlier than the fifth day after the date on which the Bill shall have been presented to him.
I should like to express the hope that the fears of those of us who opposed the extension of the drinking hours will not be realised at the coming August weekend, and that the number of fatalities will not increase on those of the previous August weekend, but I feel very strongly that it will. Consequently, I wish to dissent from the granting of this order. At least one other Sunday could have been excepted.
Senator Quinlan, Senator Murphy, Senator Fitzgerald and Senator McDonald will be recorded as dissenting.
