Vol. 60 No. 1

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as set out on the Order Paper, Nos. 1 to 3.

There is just one point I should like to raise and I think I am in order in raising it at this juncture. I think many Senators will agree that we were a bit disappointed at the way in which the Official Reports of the Dáil debates have been allowed to jump the queue. We have not yet got in hands the Report of our debates of last July, but the Dáil have got the Report of their debates of last week. The only debate in the Oireachtas so far on the projected Free Trade Area with Britain took place in this House last July and we have not yet got the Official Report in hands. I feel we should call this to the attention of those responsible. I know the Editor of Debates is extremely over-worked, but we should not allow this to go by without some reference to it. The Dáil Official Reports are out for the 15th July and for last week but we have not yet got the Official Reports of any Seanad debates of last July. We are still awaiting the Reports, three or four months after the debate. I think we have a right in this matter not to be out-paced or out-stripped by the Dáil.

I should like to support what Senator Sheehy Skeffington has said, particularly as we have not got the report of the debate on the Second Stage of the Succession Bill in this House. There were replies to various points which were raised on the Second Stage of that Bill in this House and these are not before us. Senators may not have been able to stay in the House all the time during the debate.

Cathain atá beartaithe Rún a 4 ar an gClár a thógáil?

Perhaps we should dispose first of the matter raised by Senator Sheehy Skeffington and Senator Cole. Senators can be assured that the House has the sympathy of the Chair in this matter but we must recognise that there were certain serious difficulties. Anything the Chair can do is being done to expedite the issue of the Official Reports.

Cathain a tógfar Rún a 4 ar an gClár? An féidir le Treoraí an Tí a chur in iúl cathain a phléfear é?

Rún tábhachtach atá ann. Tá sé beartaithe lá iomlán á chaitheamh ag plé na ceistecoicís ó inniu b'fhéidir.
