Vol. 63 No. 17

Statement by Senator.

With your permission, a Chathaoirleach, I should like to make a personal statement with reference to the report of the Seanad debates of Tuesday, 1st August, 1967, Volume 63, No. 13. It is in reference to a speech made by Senator Quinlan in which he quoted a headline from the Irish Times.

Column 1136. The headline which he quoted from the Irish Times, in my opinion, is not the headline which appears——

On a point of order, how is this a personal statement?

An Seanadóir Ó Maoláin.

It is not the headline which appears in this statement because the quotation marks are not in the proper position in the headline as quoted in the statement. Professor Quinlan, when making this statement was asked by me to withdraw and he proceeded to give an explanation which I queried. If the paragraphs of the Seanad report which follow are read, it will be found that it does not make sense. I am asking Senator Quinlan to withdraw something which does not appear in the report and it makes the whole thing ridiculous in so far as the intervention goes.

I should like that to be put on record for the purposes of accuracy.

That is a new form of personal explanation.
