Order of Business.
Could the Leader of the House inform us when it is proposed to have the debate on the White Paper on the EEC? We were promised it at the beginning of the session. Now that the session has come to an end, is there any likelihood that we will have it before Easter or soon after Easter?
There is no possibility of having it before Easter but it may be possible very shortly after Easter.
Will it be the first business of the Seanad after the Easter Recess?
It will be held very shortly after Easter. Obviously, it must be held before the referendum, and that will be early in May. Therefore, there is a margin of only a few weeks during which it could be held.
I understand that it was arranged to take Motion No. 13 tomorrow. The Whips might possibly discuss the situation in regard to that motion today, in view of the announcement made in the other House that it is proposed to take a referendum on this subject in the autumn. A number of Senators may feel that in those circumstances there is not much point in discussing this motion tomorrow. At this stage I should like to suggest that we might discuss it during the day in order to ascertain the general view.
