Vol. 85 No. 10

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1 and 2. If No. 1 has not been concluded by 6.30 p.m. it is proposed to interrupt it and go on to No. 2 because the Parliamentary Secretary has to go to the Dáil. We will resume, if necessary, later.

I move that Item No. 7—Family Planning Bill, 1974—be added to the Order of Business. It is quite clear that once again we have a very light amount of business to be performed. This is a most urgent, long-standing need in the country, affecting the lives and happiness of many thousands of women. In all these circumstances I can see no reason in the world—and certainly the Leader of the House has advanced no reason—why we should not take this matter this afternoon.

Is there a seconder for that amendment? In the absence of a seconder the amendment falls. The question is: "That the Order of Business be Items Nos. 1 and 2".

Question put: "That the Order of Business be Items Nos. 1 and 2".

Will the Senators requesting a division please rise?

Senator Browne rose.

Senator Browne will be recorded in the proceedings for the day as dissenting.

And you profess to be surprised that the North is going to have to be bombed into a United Ireland. What a bunch of hypocrites you all are, all of you. When did this cease to be a matter of urgency?

(Interruptions.)
Order of Business agreed to, Senator Browne dissenting.
