Vol. 87 No. 2

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1 to 6 in that order.

Could I ask the Leader of the House when he expects that the expediency motions will be available to re-establish the Joint Committee on the Secondary Legislation of the European Communities and to establish the Joint Committee on State-Sponsored Bodies? I know that the Leader of the House, as former member of the EEC Committee, will share with me the concern about the workload of this Committee. It last met on the 4th May, and in the five months since there has been considerable EEC draft legislation. I am aware that the Committee require an expediency motion tabled in the Dáil. But both Houses have now been sitting and it seems to me that it is a matter of extreme urgency that there be a watchdog committee of the Oireachtas to scrutinise the EEC legislation. I would welcome some information about when we can expect the necessary expediency motion and the motion establishing the terms of reference so that this Committee can come into operation as soon possible.

I am not in a position to tell the House at the moment but I will try to have some information about it for the next sitting.

Order of Business agreed to.
