Vol. 102 No. 3

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take Nos. 1 and 2 today. No. 2 is being ordered in an endeavour to keep up the practice of having three hours for Private Members' Business on each day on which the House sits. It was contemplated also ordering No. 5, the motion on the Action Plan for Irish, which has been debated on two occasion in the House but not completed. Rather than have a short debate on that, which would not be completed, it is better that it should not be ordered today, but it is not being ordered on the understanding that the House will be sitting on Wednesday next, which is the intention, and that No. 5 will be taken and completed then.

There is a meeting today of the Joint Committee on Commercial State-Sponsored Bodies and whether through oversight or something else it is not listed on the Order Paper. It is listed on the Dáil Order Paper. A meeting of a committee such as that, which is so important, should have been on the Order Paper for today. A second point is in regard to Motion No. 3. Would the Leader of the House be able to give us any indication as to when the Joint Committee on the Secondary Legislation of the EEC will be formed?

I regret that the Joint Committee meeting has not appeared on the Order Paper. I am not quite sure where the fault lies but I will endeavour to make sure that it will not happen again. In regard to the Joint Committee on Secondary Legislation I certainly will inquire. I was under the impression that all these committees had been initiating their work in the past few weeks. I must say it is a matter of regret to me that that committee has not resumed its work and again I will take up that question.

Order of Business agreed to.
