Vol. 107 No. 1

Request under Standing Order 29.

I have had notice from Senator B. Ryan regarding a motion of which he has given me notice under Standing Order 29 and I now call on Senator B. Ryan.

I wish to propose the Adjournment of the House to discuss a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration, that is, the need for the Government to provide adequate, moral and financial support for vulnerable witnesses at the public inquiry being conducted in Tralee.

I have given careful consideration to the matter raised by Senator Brendan Ryan and I do not consider it to be a matter contemplated by Standing Order 29. I regret, therefore, that I have to rule it out of order.

It is most regrettable that in the light of what most people would see as legalised torture in Tralee, we cannot at least put some pressure on the Government to minimise——

I cannot allow that. This matter was raised last night in the other House and I suggest the Senator read the Minister's reply.

In the light of extreme public concern——

I am sorry, Senator Ryan. I call on Senator Mullooly.
