Vol. 122 No. 14

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator John A. Murphy that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Department of the Taoiseach to help maintain in existence the Irish National Ballet and the Dublin Contemporary Dance Group, especially in view of recent public investment in the Firkin Crane in Cork as a home for the Irish National Ballet, and the forthcoming role of Dublin as the EC cultural capital.

I also received notice from Senator David Norris of the following matter:

The need for the Taoiseach as Minister with responsibility for the Arts to intervene to ensure the survival of the Irish National Ballet.

I regret I have to rule that both matters are not suitable for discussion on the Adjournment on the ground of lack of ministerial responsibility.
