Vol. 125 No. 8

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Hugh Byrne that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to take immediate action in view of the increasing problem created by the Spanish flag of convenience vessels ramming Irish trawlers off the south and west coasts.

I also received notice from Senator Ó Cuív of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Energy to outline what plans he has for the development of further timber pulp users to ensure adequate outlets for the residents of timber mills which are vital to their viability.

I also received notice from Senator Tom Hussey of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to consider Tuam, County Galway, as a location for a Government Department as part of decentralisation scheme.

I also received notice from Senator Dan Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to alleviate the enormous delays and the deteriorating position in the Land Registry, and to make a statement on the future efficiency of the registry.

I also received notice from Senator Paddy McGowan of the following matter:

The progress of the Foyle Fisheries Commission in dealing with pollution in the River Foyle.

I regard the matter raised by Senators Byrne, Ó Cuív, Hussey and Neville as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matter raised by Senator Byrne and it will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Ó Cuív, Hussey and Neville may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.

I regret I have to rule the matter raised by Senator McGowan is not suitable for the Adjournment on the ground of lack of ministerial responsibility.
