Vol. 126 No. 15

Business of Seanad.

Acting Chairman

I have notice from Senator John A. Murphy that, on the motion for the Adjournment today, he proposes to raise the following matter.

The need for the Minister for Education to extend higher education grants to the small minority of students, who, while not meeting formal academic requirements are admitted to third level institutions on the grounds of mature years.

I also received notice from Senator Joe Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice to authorise a public inquiry into the suicide of an 18 year old man in St. Patrick's Juvenile Institution, Mountjoy, and for a further inquiry into the high incidence of deaths in prisons in Ireland.

I also received notice from Senator PóI Ó Foighil of the following matter:

To ask the Minister for the Environment to make funds available to bodies of approved status for the annual maintenance of accommodation built under section 5 of the Housing Act, 1988.

I also received notice from Senator Carmencita Hederman of the following matter:

The need for the Taoiseach to ensure that the Bronze Age gold collar at present in London be returned to Ireland.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Murphy, Costello, Ó Foighil and Hederman as suitable for discussion in this House. I have selected Senator Murphy's matter and it will be taken at the conclusion of business today. Senators Ó Foighil, Costello and Hederman may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
