Vol. 135 No. 8

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Maloney that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to outline the allocation which has been made for the provision of a proper water supply to the Manor-cunningham and St. Johnstown area, known as the "Lagan Desert" in County Donegal and if the moneys were allocated from the EC Structural Fund.

I also received notice from Senator Quinn of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine, in the light of the official report on the Celtic Pride incident, to set up a pro-active and comprehensive system of regular inspection on ferries serving Irish ports, so as to identify and eliminate at an early stage all potential causes of tragic accidents on our key tourism routes.

I also received notice from Senator Reynolds of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to establish an office of his Department in Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim, to deal with headage grants and other agricultural matters.

I also received notice from Senator Neville of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Marine to approve the Foynes Harbour Development Plan 1992 to 1999; and to submit it to the EC for Structural Fund and Cohesion Fund Grant Aid.

I also received notice from Senator Kelly of the following matter:

The need for Revenue Sheriffs to take into account in their activities the preservation of jobs and the problems faced by small businesses.

I also received notice from Senator Mooney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to provide a special £1 million grant from the national lottery to restore stocks of library books which have been severely depleted in recent years.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Maloney, Quinn, Reynolds, Neville, Kelly and Mooney as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Maloney and Quinn's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Reynolds, Neville, Kelly and Mooney may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
