Vol. 138 No. 5

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Neville that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to outline the progress to date in implementing the recommendations of the Sixth Joint Committee on Commercial State-sponsored Bodies, Fifth Report, on Bord na gCon.

I also received notice from Senator O'Kennedy of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to sanction the establishment of the proposed Tipperary Rural and Business Development Institute, as essential for the development and expansion of agricultural and rural enterprise throughout the country and as a major stimulant to employment in County Tipperary and adjoining counties.

I also received notice from Senator Cotter of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to take action to protect the jobs of 75 people who are employed in the manufacture of hamburgers at a factory in the Castleblayney area of County Monaghan.

I also received notice from Senator Doyle of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education to urgently provide funding for the building of a multi-denominational school at Ranelagh, Dublin 6.

I also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Foreign Affairs to allocate more funding to Co-operation North.

I also received notice from Senator Burke of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment to upgrade to national primary status the routes from Swinford to Ballina and Castlebar to Westport, County Mayo, as a continuation of the N5.

I regard the matters raised by Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senator Neville's and Senator O'Kennedy's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise. May I say to Senator O'Kennedy and Senator Neville that they have ten minutes on the Adjournment tonight and they will not get a second more, for obvious reasons.
