Vol. 139 No. 18

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Honan that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, she proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to make adequate provision to deal with the medical problems of women who received the anti-D and who have tested positive for hepatitis C antibodies and virus.

I have also received notice from Senator Ross of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to lower the VAT rate for medical research equipment.

I have also received notice from Senator Henry of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Finance to immediately lower the suggested VAT limit on donated research equipment in view of the likely withdrawal of the Wellcome Trust in supporting medical research in this country.

I have also received notice from Senator Mooney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Social Welfare to address the concerns of the Irish community in Britain at the proposed changes in the UK Social Welfare code, which if implemented, will adversely affect young Irish people wishing to seek employment in the UK.

I regard the matters raised as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected Senators Honan's and Ross's matters and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. As Senators Ross's and Henry's matters are on the same topic I understand they will be sharing time. Senator Mooney may give notice on another day of the matter he wishes to raise.
