Vol. 146 No. 17

Request under Standing Order 29.

I have notice from Senator Daly regarding a motion he wishes to move under Standing Order 29. I call on him to give notice of the motion before I give my ruling.

I wish to move a motion for the Adjournment of the Seanad on a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration:

The damaging effect on the Irish beef industry of the BSE outbreak in Great Britain and the need for the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry to make an immediate statement to the House.

I have decided the motion is one covered by the Standing Order and I ask Senators who support the request to rise in their places.

More than five Senators rose.

As more than five Senators rose in their places, the debate on the motion will take place at 5 p.m.
