Vol. 150 No. 15

Request under Standing Order 29.

I have notice from Senator Dardis regarding a motion he wishes to move under Standing Order 29. I call on Senator Dardis to give notice of the motion before I give my ruling.

I wish to move a motion for the Adjournment of the Seanad on a specific and important matter of public interest requiring urgent consideration:

The income crisis in agriculture in general and the reduction in cattle prices in particular, including the need for the Government to restore incomes and confidence in farming, address the issue of the reduction in export refunds, act to reopen markets which have been closed to carcass beef and live cattle, deal with successive revaluations of the green currency and to state the position regarding compensation for losses arising from such revaluation.

Would it be possible to add to that?

I would like to raise the crisis in the dairy industry.

Unfortunately, that is not possible.

I have given careful consideration to the matter raised by Senator Dardis and I do not consider it to be a matter contemplated under Standing Order 29. I regret, therefore, I have to rule it out of order.
