Vol. 155 No. 3

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Glynn that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment and Local Government to review the position regarding the conditions pertaining to the issue of small public service vehicle licences, particularly as they apply to part-time drivers.

I have also received notice from Senator Gallagher of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to increase grants to voluntary youth organisations to allow them pay salary increases due to staff under the terms of Partnership 2000.

I have also received notice from Senator Costello of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to make available for academic research its files on reformatory and industrial schools 1924-68.

I have also received notice from Senator O'Meara of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform to take into account the serious situation arising from the fact that in the case of the review of sentences of various offenders, including those convicted of murder, that the criteria used by the sentence review group does not include any consideration of the views of the victim of that offender.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Glynn and Gallagher and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. The other Senators may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
