I move:
That it is expedient that the question of the exercise by the State of the option, provided by Article 3 of the Fourth Protocol set out in the Treaty of Amsterdam, to notify the President of the Council of the European Union that it wishes to take part in the adoption and application of a proposal for a Council Regulation (EC) on jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters (COM (1999) 348 final), copies of which proposal were laid before Seanad Éireann on 3rd November, 1999, be referred to the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights; and that
(i) the matter shall accordingly stand referred to the Joint Committee and
(ii) the Joint Committee shall be required to report thereon not later than 30 November, 1999,
on the making of an order to this effect by Dáil Éireann.
