Vol. 170 No. 16

Sub-Committee on the Abbeylara Incident: Motion.

I move:

That, whereas the Tribunal of Inquiry into the facts and circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of John Carthy at Abbeylara, County Longford, on 20th April 2000 and related matters has requested the Clerk of the Seanad to release to it all documentation in her possession arising out of the work of the Sub-Committee on the Abbeylara Incident (being a Sub-Committee of the Joint Committee on Justice, Equality, Defence and Women's Rights), Seanad Éireann now approves, pursuant to Standing Order 91, the release of all such material.

I have one very small point relating to the procedure of the House. It is not a substantive report. In allowing and accepting that we will not debate the motion, it is no way a reflection on the Members of this House or of the other House. The High Court and Supreme Court rulings dealt with the proceedings of the sub-committee, not the plenary proceedings of either House.

That is not at issue here.

Question put and agreed to.
