Vol. 192 No. 16

Business of Seanad.

I have notice from Senator Paschal Donohoe that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism to make a statement on any planned consolidation of national art galleries and the implications of such plans on the individual galleries.

I have received notice from Senator Jerry Buttimer of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to take the appropriate steps to recognise the remembrance day for victims of road traffic accidents.

I have received notice from Senator Pearse Doherty of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government to address the situation pertaining to a voluntary housing scheme (details supplied) where the costs of heating are forcing tenants to vacate the premises or imposing serious financial burdens on them.

I have also received notice from Senator Frances Fitzgerald of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Science to outline his response to a request from Educate Together to become a patron of second level schools.

I have also received notice from Senator Cecilia Keaveney of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Transport to direct the NRA and county councils to have cat's eyes placed on traffic islands in the interest of safety and to pursue at European level the lighting of bicycles, given the significant numbers of cyclists who use no personal or bike visibility whatsoever.

I regard the matters raised by the Senators as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment. I have selected the matters raised by Senators Donohoe, Buttimer and Doherty and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senators Fitzgerald and Keaveney may give notice on another day of the matters they wish to raise.
