Vol. 226 No. 6

Business of Seanad

I have received notice from Senator Colm Burke that, on the motion for the Adjournment of the House today, he proposes to raise the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide an update on the work of the national steering group established by him in April 2011 to develop a policy framework for the prevention, detention and treatment of rare diseases and in particular the need for the Minister to bring forward a report on the consultation process which was undertaken by the steering group in preparation for the final phase of the plan's development.

I have also received notice from Senator Lorraine Higgins of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Health to provide all cancer patients with discretionary medical cards.

I have also received notice from Senator David Cullinane of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for Education and Skills to discuss data published by the INTO that one quarter of all primary classes in County Waterford are so-called "superclasses", the impact large class sizes have on education outcomes and on teachers, and the need for the Minister to take steps to reduce class sizes in Waterford.

I have also received notice from Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill of the following matter:

The need for the Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government to suspend the granting of planning permissions for all wind farm developments until a new legislative framework to govern wind farm developments is introduced.

I have also received notice from Senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh of the following matter:

An gá go ndéanfadh an tAire Ealaíon, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta ráiteas maidir le todhchaí Eagraíocht na Scoileanna Gaeltachta ó thaobh tacaíocht a Roinne de.

I regard the matters raised by Senators Colm Burke, Higgins, Cullinane and Ó Domhnaill as suitable for discussion on the Adjournment and they will be taken at the conclusion of business. Senator Ó Clochartaigh may give notice on another day of the matter which he wishes to raise.
