SECTION 19.

Question proposed: "That section 19 stand part of the Bill".

Although this is a short section, it strikes me as an important one as it relates to the electronic settlement of accounts. I do not see any reference to the Data Protection Act, 1988, and the Minister might point out why this is the case. More and more accounts are settled electronically now rather than in the old way. Surely, this has some reference to the other Acts which would cover all of this new area of data protection and, specifically, electronic settlement systems. I see no reference to it in the Bill.

The Deputy is right. I am advised that it should not be necessary. It is not names of individuals and detail but just money transfers, balances, etc. Can I look at that and come back to the Deputy on Report Stage?

If you would just comment on it, because it is a growing, as opposed to a diminishing, area.

I agree with the Deputy. It could be a belt and braces matter. Even if it is not absolutely necessary now, it may be as well to have it there if the matter arose. I am not sure. I am just giving an opinion without knowing too much about that.

If the Minister of State came back to us on it, I would appreciate it.

Question put and agreed to.
