Select Committee on Justice and Equality díospóireacht -
Wednesday, 20 Feb 2019

Message to Dáil

In accordance with Standing Order 90, the following message will be sent to the Dáil:

The Select Committee on Justice and Equality has completed its consideration of the Criminal Law (Extraterritorial Jurisdiction) Bill 2018 and has made no amendments thereto.

I wish to acknowledge the engagement this morning, which I take as a strong message from this committee of its support for the legislation. I very much value that. It will allow me to proceed to the Business Committee within the next hour and inform it that we have dealt with our business this morning. I hope that we can proceed to the next Stage in the next few weeks, notwithstanding the legislative priorities on the matter of the withdrawal of the UK from the EU. The Bill's passage this morning was swift. I will not say it was an endorsement because it was given due consideration. Following that due consideration, I am happy to report a strong message of support and that will assist me in my application to the Business Committee to have the next Stage listed for next week in the hope that, as Deputy Chambers indicated, we can proceed and have the ratification during the month of March.

I thank the Minister.

The select committee adjourned at 9.20 a.m. sine die.
