Special Committee on the Judicial Separation And Family Law Reform Bill,1987 díospóireacht -
Wednesday, 11 May 1988

NEW SECTION.

I move amendment No. 3:

In page 4, before section 1, to insert the following new section:

"1.—In this Act, except where the context otherwise requires:—

‘the court' means the court having jurisdiction under Part III of this Act.".

This is merely a formal drafting amendment. It inserts, in page 4, before section 1, a new short section. Part III defines what the court is. It may not be strictly essential that this be contained at the commencement of the Bill but it is there for the matter of completeness and to avoid any doubt. It is purely a technical amendment.

With regard to this technical amendment, I agree with Deputy Shatter. I do not think any comment is necessary. Part III of the Bill deals wtih court jurisdiction. That matter will come up for consideration by the committee at a later stage. At that stage we will have some amendments for discussion.

Amendment agreed to.
Amendments Nos. 4 to 6, inclusive, not moved.
Question: "That section 1, as amended, stand part of the Bill" put and agreed to.
