The scope of the works required at the school referred to by the Deputy is appropriate for consideration under the summer works scheme which was announced in December last.
Officials in the school planning section of my Department are currently in the process of registering and assessing all applications received for the summer works scheme 2004. Details of the result of this assessment and the schools which will receive funding will be published no later than 27 February 2004.

Ceist:317 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Education and Science his views on the difficulties and health and safety problems caused by the non-provision of the covered walkway at Confey College, Leixlip; if he will visit the school to see for himself the situation as it exists; if he will consider funding the walkway from the secondary school contingency fund in view of this; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraAs previously outlined to the Deputy, my Department prioritised projects for inclusion in the 2004 school building programme on the basis of the published criteria. It was not possible to include provision for a covered walkway at Confey College, Leixlip, County Kildare.
On the basis of the budgetary allocation, funding for this project cannot be allocated from the contingency fund.
