Amharc ar fhreagraThe requirements of the practical driving test are set out in the relevant EU directive. A number of improvements to the practical driving test are in the course of implementation on foot of amendments agreed at EU level. These changes relate to random checks on mechanical aspects of vehicles which have a bearing on road safety such as tyres, steering, brakes, engine oil, coolant, washer fluid, lights, reflectors, indicators and horn. A study to assess the impact of these additional requirements is almost completed by my Department.
In addition, my Department, in conjunction with the Office of Public Works, is arranging for the implementation of improvements to truck tests, such as parking safely for loading-unloading at a loading ramp and coupling and uncoupling the vehicle.
