Ceisteanna (185)

Brendan Howlin

Ceist:

185 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has satisfied himself with the current number of consultant obstetricians and gynaecologists at Wexford General Hospital; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the birth rate at Wexford General Hospital in 2003 was 1853, several hundred births more than hospitals with much larger staffing complements; the plans he has for maternity services at this hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The provision of hospital services, including the appointment of staff at Wexford General Hospital, is a matter for the South Eastern Health Board.

An application for a third permanent consultant obstetrician/gynaecologist post for Wexford General Hospital has been received and is being considered by my Department.
