223 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will name the cases in which miscarriages of justice have been established under the Criminal Procedure Act 1993; the compensation which has been awarded to persons wrongly convicted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Court of Criminal Appeal has declared a miscarriage of justice under the Criminal Procedure Act 1993 in the following cases: DPP v. Joseph Meleady and Joseph Grogan — miscarriage of justice declared 20 March, 2001; DPP v. Frank Shortt — miscarriage of justice declared 31 July 2002. Monetary compensation has not to date been paid to persons who have been found to have been victims of a miscarriage of justice under the Act.
