Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will name the cases in which miscarriages of justice have been established under the Criminal Procedure Act 1993; the compensation which has been awarded to persons wrongly convicted; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Amharc ar fhreagraThe Court of Criminal Appeal has declared a miscarriage of justice under the Criminal Procedure Act 1993 in the following cases: DPP v. Joseph Meleady and Joseph Grogan — miscarriage of justice declared 20 March, 2001; DPP v. Frank Shortt — miscarriage of justice declared 31 July 2002. Monetary compensation has not to date been paid to persons who have been found to have been victims of a miscarriage of justice under the Act.
