110 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he proposes to introduce performance pay or bonuses for teachers who display exceptional talent and application in classroom work; and if not, the reason therefor. [18193/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraAll matters regarding pay and conditions of service of teachers is a matter for the Teachers Conciliation Council which comprises representatives from the managerial authorities of schools, teacher unions and the Departments of Education and Science and Finance. There are no proposals before the council in relation to the introduction of performance pay for teachers and any such proposal would have to be considered in the context of Government pay policy and the Sustaining Progress agreement, which precludes any cost-increasing claims for improvements in pay or conditions of employment other than those provided by the agreement.
