Ceisteanna (284)

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

284 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will report on his efforts to bring Monaghan General Hospital back on call, as promised, in the first week of July 2002; the details of his most recent involvement; the status of the hospital, that is, if an ambulance can bring a stroke or heart attack patient for treatment or admission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Responsibility for the provision of services at Monaghan General Hospital rests with the North Eastern Health Board. My Department has, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the matter raised by the Deputy and to reply to him directly.

I have had discussions with the chief executive officer and management of the board in regard to the provision of hospital services across the Cavan/Monaghan hospital group. I understand a steering group has been established to determine the level of service to be provided at both hospital sites. I am advised that this group is meeting on a regular basis with a view to progressing the issues involved.
