1045 Mr. O’Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the proposals he has to reform the legal system to achieve a humane and workable approach to debt over-indebtedness and chronic over-indebtedness; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21560/04]
Amharc ar fhreagraI have indicated on a number of previous occasions in response to parliamentary questions, including Question No. 149 of 23 June 2004 from the Deputy, that the Government legislative programme does not contain proposals for the reform of the law regarding the non-payment of civil debt. The programme, announced on 28 September 2004 by the Government Chief Whip for the autumn session, is also absent of any such proposal. However, the area continues to be kept under review by my Department taking into account the work of the money advice and budgeting service.
